The voice is an immensely personal instrument. While other types of instruments are concrete and tangible, with specific keys to hit, strings to pluck, pedals to press down on, etc. the voice has an air of mystery about it. With modern day scientific discoveries, much more is known about the voice than ever before, but the voice exists within the body. The voice is often depicted abstractly - little doodles with eighth notes, or perhaps a glowing ball of sound, such as when Ursula steals Ariel’s voice in Disney’s The Little Mermaid. Despite what Disney may lead viewers to believe, the voice cannot simply be taken out and held, or stored in a necklace. It is a part of human anatomy, and thus extremely personal to every individual. To trust another human being with guidance on the utilization of the voice is a deeply vulnerable action.

As a vocal instructor, I am honored to be trusted in this way, and do not take that trust lightly. It is my goal and responsibility to meet a student where they are at in their journey with their voice, and walk alongside them in this journey to healthy, efficient, and effective singing collaborating every step of the way. Together we will build control, versatility, and confidence in the voice. Every voice is unique and beautiful. All students are welcome and affirmed, regardless of experience level, age, racial and/or ethnic identity, sexual orientation, gender identity, socioeconomic status, religion, culture, health condition(s), and/or other impairments.
